The U.S. General Services Agency has saved $1 million by converting information storage technology decades ago, the government’s Department of Efficiency (DOGE) said Friday.

In a post on X, Doge said the agency that supplies office space, transportation and other basic services to federal agencies has saved money by converting 14,000 magnetic tapes into permanent, latest digital records.

The move is part of the Elon Musk-led group’s mission to remove wasted government spending.

Earlier this week, the group said the Veterans Affairs Bureau (VA) cancelled its contract and paid hundreds of thousands of dollars a month for changes to its website before internal staff took over.

While examining the load and large amounts of data, Doge discovered a previous contract by the VA for website maintenance.

“Good job with @deptvetaffairs,” Doge said in a X post Wednesday. “VA previously paid $380,000 a month for minor website changes. That contract has not been renewed and the same work is being carried out by one internal VA software engineer spending 10 hours per week.”

Gas said Thursday that it would save $4.5 million in unused office space through “optimizing leases and reducing footprints.”

“Smart moves like this mean efficiency and better space for institutions to provide for Americans,” a post from the X-state GSA.

Fox News Digital reached out to GSA but received no response by the time of publication.
