Dogs with dogs found in private shelters after ice attacks were found at Home Depot

Some animal advocates feared that dogs that appeared in the era’s tales of pets of deported people would be euthanized after being taken to a private LA County shelter.

However, the three-year-old Pitburchko is located at the county’s Baldwin Park Animal Shelter, and remains likely to be hired.

Animal advocates said Chuko was with the owner when immigration agents attacked Home Depot on Burstow, animal advocates said. His owner was arrested, but a friend on the scene managed to grab the dog and take him home. Shortly afterwards, his landlord grabbed the pet and took him to the shelter. She didn’t notice the name of the shelter, but took a photo of the location. The Chuko owner was deported.

Chuco is “ready to go home,” according to the LA County Animal Control Department.

Esther Ruurda, who co-founded the Spay (CE) project, which provides castration and castration services and aimed to help Chuco find a home, texted the photo to shelter volunteer Rita Earl Blackwell and asked if they could identify the location.

Blackwell investigated with the help of shelter employees and they found Chuko.

He can be seen in the public database of available animals counties.

But veteran volunteer Blackwell said “it’s difficult for LA’s pit bulls amid our current shelter crisis.” She said the county shelter is busier than she saw in 15 years. Supporters point to people who abandoned animals they obtained during the Covid-19 pandemic, rising costs of veterinary care, including castration and castration procedures, and now increasing numbers of immigrant arrests.

According to some supporters, dogs can be difficult to find a home.

More than twice as many dogs were abandoned in June by owners at the Palmdale Shelter in LA County, data obtained by The Times. At the county’s Downey Shelter, the count increased by almost 50%.

But Chuko has a fascinating backstory, and Blackwell expects him to give him the edge that leads to his adoption despite being “in the sea of unnecessary dogs.”
