The Justice Department convened a major ju judge to investigate New York Attorney General Letitia James, celebrating President Donald Trump’s escalation of his fight with top New York prosecutors.
The investigation has run out of Albany, New York, and focuses on the possibility of deprivation of claims of rights, two well-placed sources familiar with the probe told Fox News Digital.
The investigation is in its early stages, but Fox News Digital learned that James’ office received a subpoena for the document this week, including information relating to a civil fraud lawsuit against Trump.
James, a Democrat who was elected attorney general in 2018, has long been Trump’s target. James successfully filed a civil charge against him for business fraud in 2022, playing a key role in challenging his current administration’s enforcement actions.
James’ office did not respond to requests for comment on the investigation.

James began an investigation into Trump’s organization shortly after she took office, eventually securing a $454 million ruling against the then principal and two of his sons.
A New York judge found that Trump and his business partners were severely exaggerating Trump’s wealth, earning positive loans and other financial benefits. James said at the time that financial fraud was not a “crime without victims.”
“If the average New Yorker enters the bank and submits false documents, the government will throw books at them, and the same should be true for the former president,” James said.

James was also a key figure in bringing lawsuits that challenged the second Trump administration’s enforcement action. James and other Democrats’ attorney generals sued to combat a freeze on spending, including federally funded social programs, mass shootings of federal employees and restrictions on transgender care for minors.
The news of the Great Jury’s investigation is as tensions continue to build between Trump and James.

In April, the Federal Housing Finance Agency asked Attorney General Pam Bondy to investigate James’ mortgage fraud, and the DOJ launched another investigation into the issue. James received a subpoena from the big jury in the investigation, the Washington Post reported.
James denied the mortgage fraud allegations.
At the same time, Trump called her a “strange con man” about true society.
“Letitia James, a completely corrupt politician, should resign from his position as New York State Attorney General,” Trump wrote.
