Dolly Parton put her love into the song.
Her husband, Carl Thomas Dean, of 58, passed away at the age of 82, and the 79-year-old released an emotional song for his honor.
“I fell in love with Carl Dean when I was 18,” Parton wrote on Instagram on March 7th along with a photo of her and Dean’s throwback. Like all great love stories, they never end. They live in memories and songs. He will always be the star of the story of my life and I will devote this song to him. ”
The emotional ballad begins with Parton talking directly to her husband. “If you weren’t there, where would I be?
Through the song, Parton looks back at the ups and downs of her life, singing about how her husband was there to provide support and love during her marriage.
“I wasn’t here / if you hadn’t gone there / if you hadn’t held your hand,” she sings.

Parton also revealed the love and confidence her husband offered. In fact, in one of the most emotional lyrics, Parton sings:
The musical tribute of the “9-5” singer came the day after breaking the silence following news of Dean’s death.
“This is a love note for family, friends and fans,” she wrote on Instagram on March 6th.
“I can’t reach out to each of you personally, but I just know that it means the world to me,” she wrote. “He’s in God’s arms now, and I’m fine with that. I’ll love you forever. Dolly.”
Parton and Dean’s love story began when they met him in 1964 after their arrival in Nashville, Tennessee, when they began pursuing a career in music. Throughout her decades of career, Dean kept the spotlight down.
However, his support for his wife has always been at the forefront.
“It’s important to have someone in your corner and you know they love you for who you are,” she told E! News for May. “There’s great comfort in knowing that someone loves you exactly for who you are because he fell in love with me before I became a star.”
She continued. “We enjoy each other. One of the things we want to do – not necessarily a date night, but a lot of date days – we have a small RV and we want to travel. We either get off and get some food, or we have a picnic and go to the river.”
