Visitors to Balboa Pia in Newport Beach were treated to an unexpected and unforgettable show over the weekend.
Local resident Angelica Torres captured the moment on video, showing at least three dolphins glide through the waves near the swimmer.
In the footage, the dolphins can be seen looping towards the audience, swimming in a circular pattern that some onlookers described as “playing” for the crowd.
“What started as a relaxing Sunday in Newport Beach quickly became an unforgettable experience,” Torres told KTLA. “All of a sudden, Fin broke the surface of the water and we realized we were witnessing something special. About three dolphin pods are swimming very close to the coast.”
Several adventurous beach fans joined in the moment, grabbing the waves as the dolphins traveled through the waves, according to Torres.
“It was an absolute highlight,” she added. “Especially because seeing dolphins was totally unexpected on the day we were simply enjoying the beautiful local weather.”
After spending a few minutes pleasing both the swimmers and the audience, the dolphins finally made their way.
