The new dad, the 37-year-old Doordash executive, was among the eight people who died after a boat capsized on Lake Tahoe during a sudden storm.

The other sailors who died were relatives of Josh Pickles, all friends or Doordash executive. A family spokesperson said they gathered in Tahoe to celebrate their mother’s 71st birthday. His mother, Paula Bodinovich, also died in the incident.

Ten people were on a 27-foot powerboat near DL Bliss State Park in Southern Lake Tahoe when a strong thunderstorm rolled over Saturday afternoon and the lake conditions rapidly deteriorated. Authorities and locals said the winds had gone from 5-10 mph to 35-45 mph in a few minutes. The temperature dropped nearly 20 degrees in my late 30s, and the waves grew to 7-10 feet of chops.

At one point, Josh Pickles’ boat capsized. The Coast Guard and the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office responded to the incident Saturday around 3pm after someone reported 10 people underwater.

Initially, authorities were able to save two people from the water taken to the hospital, but six others were found dead. Over the next two days, search and rescue teams found the bodies of the last two residents, bringing the death toll to eight.

On Tuesday, authorities identified the victims as five Californians and three New Yorkers. Josh Pickles of San Francisco and his parents Bodinovich and Terry Pickles (73), both of whom are Redwood City. Josh Pickles’ uncle, Peter Bays, 72, Lincoln; Other close friends of the family, Timothy O’Leary, 71, of Auburn, Teresa Jurari, 66, and James Gak, 69, Honeye, New York, and Stephen Lindsay, 63, of Springwater, New York;

“We are devastated by this tragedy,” wrote Jordan Sugar Carlsgaard, widow of Josh’s Pickles, in a statement. “There are no words that I feel like I know that their lives have been lost because they were meant to be a fun time on the lake.

Sugar-Carlsgaard and her husband have recently welcomed the baby together. Neither the 7 month old baby nor the sugar Carlsgard were on the boat on Saturday.

Family spokesman Sam Singer said he owns the boat Josh and Terry Pickles bought last year. Singer said he only put the boat in the water three times.

Josh’s Pickles and his wife had homes in the San Francisco Bay Area and Tahoe, the singer said.

Doordash’s Chief Financial Officer, Ravi Inukonda, said the company was devastated by the death of Josh Pickles.

“Josh has inspired everyone who loved his team and had the privilege of knowing him,” Inuconda said in a statement. “In nearly seven years at Doordash, he has brought about a contagious spirit that lifts up those around him. Josh’s loss is immeasurable.

Josh Pickles’ role in the company was head of global strategic procurement and procurement.

“Our thoughts and love are with my wife, my daughter, my family and everyone close to him,” Inukonda said. “We are working to support them through these extremely difficult times.”

A spokesman for the sheriff’s office said it was “too early to investigate” to comment on the use of the best of life. The spokesman declined to comment on the current situation of the victim, who had survived and said he had no cause of death.

Water temperatures on the lake remained below 60 degrees on Saturday, according to the Tahoe Environmental Research Center at UC Davis. Officials warn that water below 70 degrees will be cold enough to cause hypothermia if a person is exposed to such a condition for a long time.
