More than 20 families remain evacuated in the wake of a fireworks explosion that destroyed parts of the house and left a man in critical condition.
The explosion in the 13,500 block of Remington Street in Pacoima was reported around 9am and is believed to have been caused by the production of fireworks, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.
The victim 24-year-old man — the fireworks manufacturer was in critical condition with first-degree burns on at least 50% of his body, police said.
Once he recovers, he is expected to face many charges.

Despite the devastation, not all of the fireworks exploded, and some of the chemicals used to make them remain in the home, officials said.
As a result, the explosion expelled 26 families, 15 families under 15 evacuation orders and 11 people under evacuation warnings, KTLA’s Carlos Herrera learned. These displacements are expected to last until Monday or Tuesday.
“As I have said many times, I recommend predicting that the nature of the investigation will slowly become systematic,” said Kevin Terz of LAPD. “I’m expecting at least a day or two, but I have flexibility. I know there’s a lot to ask, but that’s where we’re there to keep everyone safe.”
Hotel vouchers are being provided to displaced people, and the American Red Cross has established an emergency shelter at the Ritchie Valens Recreation Center, 10736 Laurel Canyon Blvd.
“The American Red Cross Los Angeles region and our partners are tirelessly working to support those who have been evacuated from the fireworks explosion area of Pacoima. The Red Cross LA has opened an emergency shelter that provides shelter, food, water, health and emotional support services.”
