Dozens of trees hacked by the destroyers of downtown Los Angeles

Dozens of trees in downtown Los Angeles were hacked over the weekend, according to multiple media reports and posts on social media.

It is unclear exactly what time was destroyed, as of now, that Los Angeles Police Department officials have told KTLA that the Los Angeles Times had no information about an incident that took place in the city’s urban forestry department over Easter Holiday weekend.

In a Reddit post, one user noted that several trees between 1st Street and Wilshire Boulevard have been cut down.

On Instagram, another user posted a video of fallen trees on Olympic Boulevard and Hope Street, Olympic Boulevard, Figuero Avenue, Broadway, Cesar Chavez Avenue, Wells Fargo Center and Grand Avenue in front of Grand Avenue and Fifth Avenue.

From the photos and videos, the wood appears to be cut using a chainsaw. Some of them are cut at the bottom, while others are knocked down a few feet above the ground. In other instances, no clean cuts were made, leaving some of the trees connected by bark threads.

At least some trees were drought-resistant diversity known as Indian Laurel figs, the Times reported.

It is unclear why a destroyer or some destroyer would want to taint and damage the city’s property in this particular way, and so far no surveillance footage of the assailant or perpetrator has appeared.

In response to comment, Mayor La Karen Bass’ Office said the city’s crew were out and that it was assessing the damages that LAPD launched an investigation into the incident.

Stay with KTLA for this developing story.
