Police are seeking witnesses to assist in the investigation after a pedestrian was struck and killed by a driver in Los Angeles County Sunday afternoon.
According to the La Verne Police Department, on Dec. 8 at approximately 4:55 p.m., dispatchers received a report of a traffic accident with injuries.
Officers responded to the intersection of Bonita Avenue and Damian Avenue and found an adult male pedestrian struck by a vehicle.
La Verne Fire Department personnel quickly responded and transported the man for treatment, but he was pronounced dead from his injuries at a local hospital.
The department issued a release Sunday night saying the man’s identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin by the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office.
Police said the driver remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation.
Details are limited, and police did not immediately say whether the driver was distracted or whether the pedestrian did not notice the vehicle in progress.
However, police said drugs or alcohol do not appear to be a factor at this time.
Officials said the crash is being investigated by the La Verne Police Department’s Major Crash Investigation Team and asked anyone with information to call the department at 909-596-1913.
“The La Verne Police Department extends its condolences to those affected by this tragic incident,” the police report concludes.
