The two who were killed in a head-on highway collision in Santa Ana on Monday were the drivers of their respective vehicles, one of whom was behind the wheels of the speeding BMW that caused the collision, police said.
The crash occurred at 6:30pm on Main Street near Warner Avenue. There, a speeding sedan was found with southbound traffic heading north in the travel lane.
The BMW sedan hit the black Honda head-on and sent the Honda to the white Toyota SUV.
BMW and Honda drivers were killed, and five other Toyota people (including one year old) were injured.
The BMW driver was identified as 29-year-old George Delgado, with the Honda driver being Leticia Alvarado (32).
“I don’t think it was a coincidence given the fact that he was driving at a very high speed for a very long time,” said Natalie Garcia of the Santa Ana Police Department. “He is the suspect in this investigation. He has just passed away, but factors such as alcohol and drugs. [remain under investigation]. ”
