Police in Riverside are shedding more light on the arrest of a driver involved in the crash of a multiple vehicle that claimed the life of one man and injured six others.
The crash crash occurred around 6:20pm on Market Street, Riverside Police Department said.
Four vehicles were found at the scene, including a black Dodge Challenger, believed to be the cause of the violent collision.
One person was killed and six others were hospitalized after a multi-vehicle collision in downtown Riverside on April 16, 2025.
The challenger driver, 19-year-old Redland’s Isaac Isaiah Villalba, tried to detain him at the scene and resisted trying to escape from police, officials said.
Investigators believe Villalba was driving at high speed and was under the influence of drugs when he hit the back of Honda Civic before colliding with another vehicle.
The 37-year-old Christian Barragan civilian driver from Riverside suffered serious injuries and was taken to a local hospital where he was later declared dead. Six other people, other cars and five Viralba, suffered minor to severe injuries.
One person was killed and six others were hospitalized after a multi-vehicle collision in downtown Riverside on April 16, 2025.
Villalba was taken to a local hospital for treatment and was evaluated by the Riverside Police Station “Drug Awareness Experts”.
After being cleaned up from the hospital, Villalva was taken into custody and booked at the Robert Presley Detention Center in Riverside. He faces the possibility of suspicions of murder, felony blows and running, drugs under the influence of death injuries and resisting arrests “by violence.”
The investigation is still ongoing, and anyone with information is encouraged to contact RPD detective Matthew Parrish by email or calling 951-353-8177.
“Comments on social media suggest that while several people may have seen the black Dodge Challenger driving irregularly before the collision, they have not yet made progress,” the police department said.
