The 66-year-old man died of injuries after being hit by a Santa Ana DUI driver, police confirmed Thursday.
The clash occurred Wednesday night around the large intersection of Bristol Street and Seagerstrom Avenue, according to the Santa Ana Police Department.
SAPD said it received multiple reports of crash crashes around 10:50pm and arrived at the scene along with the Orange County Fire Department to discover a collision involving a pedestrian and vehicle.
The first responder began treating the victim on the scene, then transporting him to a local hospital. There, despite efforts to save lives, he succumbed to injuries. He was later identified as 66-year-old John Valentella Lula of Santa Ana.
“Based on the witness statement, John saw the vehicle walking in the traffic lanes of Bristol Street when it hit him,” SAPD said. “The driver stayed on the scene, cooperated with the investigation and was eventually arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs.”
The suspect was not immediately publicly identified.
The Santa Ana Police Station crash investigation unit is investigating the incident and is asking anyone with information about the crash to contact detective J. Martinez, 714-245-8207 or the Santa Ana Police Station traffic department at 714-245-8200.
