Finally, Rock explains what happened at WrestleMania.
On Tuesday morning, Dwayne “Rock” Johnson appeared on the “Pat McCuffy Show” explaining his absence at the two-day event and providing some notes on what he thought he had used the tweaks.
People’s Champion explained that TKO’s executive chairman and CEO Arie Manuel personally requested that Johnson appear in the elimination chamber in March, a premium live event held in Toronto.
In 2024, Johnson was appointed to the TKO board of directors, the parent company of WWE and UFC.
“He said, “We need help in the elimination chamber. Ticket sales are a little slow, but beyond what we’re finding, in the elimination chamber, it became an interesting pay-per-view, the fan is a conduit to WrestleMania. The owner of Telemana explained. “He says, ‘Now we don’t have it,’ and he says (will the last boss appear?”.”
Johnson then said he would think about it. He returned with Emmanuel, WWE President Nick Kahn and WWE Chief Content Officer Paul “Triple H” Levesque to come up with the idea of the final boss who seeks Rhodes’ soul.
“What that means means you can think in your head, Cody Rhodes, whatever dreams you have, whatever ambition you have, even if they are astonishing, they are astonishing, they are astonishing, even if they are scared and full of light, and even if they are scared of them, what you tell the final boss is going to make it happen,” he explained.
It used this as a selling point to engage fans at premium live events and also served as a test to see how fans would react if Rhodes himself got on the heel. Johnson hinted that the turn could go down the path.
From there, Levesque and Johnson came up with Cena. Instead, he made a turn.
“So, when we moved forward with John and when he crowned WrestleMania and became the heel champion, I knew the best for the ultimate boss, we established this idea of Cody’s soul.
The “Black Adam” star has been in the spotlight and prefers to ride two WWE superstars, saying, “Let me do what they’re doing.”
He called both men to let them know he was taking the back seat and told the storyline he had “build” “6 weeks.” He urged the two to “crush it down” and assured them that he was around if they needed him, but he thought it was best for his character not to get involved.
Johnson loved finishing the match, and Cena made WWE history a 17-time champion and broke the 16 record for wrestling legend Ric Flair. He said he “deftly” did some things within the creativity department.
However, fans were unaware of the change and assumed that Rock would be on a big show. I bought a lot of tickets under this assumption.
He told McAfee that Emmanuel, Kahn and Levesque could be involved in the main event, but he questioned how the story would continue, as he had other commitments.
Rock appeared on 2025’s “The Smashing Machine.” Next year, he will be in live-action “Moania” films “Jumanji 4” and “Fast X: Part 2.”
“I also wanted to note that I wasn’t running too much of our skiing here,” he continued. “I can take part in the finish, but in my opinion, why are you involved in the finish when the spotlight is on, John 17 Heel Champion, what would 2025 look if this guy says ‘s ruining wrestling’? For me, it’s not a soul for now, but by the way, we’re going back to it. ”
At a post-registration press conference, the “Peacemaker” star declared that he plans to ruin wrestling during his final tenure within WWE.
Johnson also touched on the surprising interference of rapper Travis Scott during the game, admitting he was surprised, and could see why fans were hoping he would appear.
“They were waiting. They were waiting for it.”
McAfee even said he texted Johnson during that time, asking if he would be coming.
Johnson praised Scott for his recent involvement in WWE.
“He loves wrestling, he’s a huge fan, he respects it, he works his a-,” he revealed. “I know he’s going to work with (WWE Hall of Fame) Booker T. I don’t know if that’s already happening.”
Johnson continues to call him “a certainty, goat, the era,” saying he is not on Mount Rushmore in professional wrestling. He took the courage to consider that Cena is the villain or alias heel spinning, and this is his WWE farewell tour and that he is a good guy known along with his fans, aka Babyface.
“I said, ‘Brother, I give you a lot of credit. I hope you’re exhilarating right now, as what you’re trying to do is gain courage and you’re putting it all in line,” Johnson explained.
Following the interview, fans placed emphasis on social media.
One fan took him to X and called the interview “furious.”
However, another fan praised the explanation.
“I thought he did an amazing job of laying out some of his ideas and long-term plans for Cody and Cena, and trusting me, I was really disappointed that he didn’t finish on Sunday night.
