DWP water supply progresses as service stops continue

The crew is working on repairs and continue their work to restore water services for the thousands of residents of Granada Hills and Porter Ranch.

The problem occurred on Tuesday. On Tuesday, a valve controlling the flow of water broke during repairs at a pump station that supplies 10 million gallons of water tanks.

The LADWP crew will weld the new valves into large-diameter water pipes. Customers in this area are urged to avoid using tap water until notification.

DWP said the crew was cutting and removing the broken valve and welding a new section of the pipe.

“During this period, it remains very important for customers in this area to avoid using tap water until further notice,” DWP said in writing. “The community’s diligence in these efforts will help maintain the water pressure needed for restoration as quickly and safely as possible, as our crew continues to work as quickly and safely as possible.”

City officials have urged residents not to use water that has just started coming out of the faucet for now, warning that this could delay completion of repairs.

Once the repair work is finished, DWP said that the system in the area must be suppressed and tested. The agency said it would need to send water samples to the lab to retrieve the results. This could take around 18 hours and he said the process must be repeated for confirmation to comply with drinking water guidelines.

Last week, the DWP issued a notice advising residents to boil water for safety. According to DWP, the tests must be completed to ensure water quality before unsubscribing.

With its DWP, Mansi Dutta carries a case of bottled water when vehicles lined up at Holly Burson Memorial Park. Thousands of Granada Hills and Porter Ranch are handling water service outages.

The DWP has set up five locations where residents can pick up bottled water, showers and do laundry.

Holleigh Bernson Memorial Park, 20500 Sesnon Blvd, Porter Ranch: Bottle of water, recycled water distribution, toilets, showers, mobile laundry units. 7am – 9pm Melveny Park, 17300 Sesnon Blvd., Granada Hills: bottled water, recycled water distribution, toilets. 7am to 9pm between Tampa Avenue and Sethnon Boulevard. Northridge and Porter Ranch boundary: bottled water and recycled water distribution. 7am-9pm, YMCA, 11336 Corbin Street, Porter Lunch: Shower, Mobile Laundry Unit. 5am to 10pm, intertwining between Rinaldi and Louise Avenue: showers, mobile laundry units, toilets. 5am – 10pm
