A security guard was shot and killed during an attempted robbery at an East Los Angeles marijuana dispensary early Monday morning, authorities said.
Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department deputies responded to a report of a shooting at around 1:30 a.m. in the 6100 block of Whittier Boulevard, a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department spokesperson said. An address search and local television news footage of the scene revealed the location to be a 24-hour marijuana dispensary.
The two suspects, both described only as men, entered the store and attempted to rob it. During the attempt, gunfire erupted and a pharmacy security guard was struck.
The suspects then left in a dark-colored SUV, authorities said. The victim was found shot in the chest and pronounced dead at the scene, a spokesperson said.
The search for the suspect had been ongoing since Monday morning.
