ALTADENA, Calif. (KTLA) – A new wildfire broke out in the Eaton Canyon area near Altadena Tuesday night, forcing evacuations as devastating storms continue to batter Southern California.
The Eaton Fire was first reported around 6:30 p.m. and has since grown to more than 400 acres, Angeles National Forest officials said.
Crews from the Pasadena Fire Department, Los Angeles County Fire Department and U.S. Forest Service are responding to the blaze, and surrounding areas are being evacuated.

Shelter for evacuated residents is available at All Saints Church, located at 132 N. Euclid Avenue in Pasadena, directly across from Pasadena City Hall.
Details are still limited and it is unclear how many homes and buildings could be threatened.

The destructive and life-threatening storm is expected to reach maximum wind speeds starting at 10pm Tuesday night and continuing into Wednesday morning.
Fire officials are asking the public to be prepared, heed evacuation warnings and stay off the roads if possible so emergency personnel can access areas at risk.
Los Angeles County fire officials said the fast-moving fire posed a “significant threat to life and property.”
“If you are in an evacuation area, please bring all necessary items with you in preparation for an extended evacuation,” Pasadena Fire Department officials said.
“I’ve been forecasting in this city for 21 years and I’ve never seen winds like this before,” said KTLA meteorologist Kai Goldberg, who lives near the fire area. “A huge oak tree that’s 80 to 90 years old is falling down right now. People are leaving. They’re packing up their belongings. The house is filled with smoke right now.”
