A total of eight people were shot dead overnight after a party in downtown Los Angeles, police say two are dead.
The shooting took place around 1am on Monday in the East 14th and Paloma Street area, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. The address provided by the authorities is in an industrial area just north of the 10th Expressway.
The event flyer shows that an “unofficial” afterparty for attendees at the Hard Summer Music Festival, known as “Way After You Hard – Afterparty Day 2,” was being held in the 1200 block of Paloma. Hard Summer took place over the weekend at Hollywood Park next to Sophie Stadium.

LAPD officials previously were in the area to close the party around 11pm on Sunday, but it was not immediately clear whether people were connected to the previous party where people gatherings were closed early on Monday. Authorities say one person was taken into custody for possessing a firearm during the interaction.
Two hours later, officers returned to the area after a radio call for shots fired, and when they arrived, a large crowd was blocking the road.

A spokesperson for the Los Angeles Police Department told KTLA 5’s Erin Myers early Monday morning that six people were injured, including at least one person in danger.
The deceased victims were described as males and females only. The former was declared dead at the scene, while the latter died at the hospital.
A large crowd was found outside the California Hospital medical center. Some of the victims were taken by ambulance, while others are believed to have been self-transported.

Video footage shows the confusing scene unfolds the moment after the shooting erupts. People cried out and watched officers arrive and flee the area as they began to tape crime scenes. Two bodies were seen on the road. Neither of them was moving.

The scene was still active at 6am on Monday. East 14th Street remained blocked between Paloma and Griffith Avenue.
