African elephants at the safari park at the San Diego Zoo instinctively created an “alert circle” during the earthquake.
The action got caught up in the camera, as shown below. The San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance says it is telling elephants and the entire flock to protect them from threats.
“Elephants have the ability to feel sounds through their feet,” Sdzwa said. “This video shows the strong social family structure of elephant herds.”
The herd consists of Ndlula, Umgani, Khosi, and young people Zuli and Mkhaya. Zuli and Mkhaya returned to normal after about four minutes, but remained close to each other.
A herd of elephants at San Diego Zoo Safari Park jumped into action to protect their youth after a 5.2 earthquake struck the area.
The earthquake struck San Diego County at the epicenter near Julian at about 10:10am Monday. Temblor was felt from Los Angeles to Tijuana, Mexico, followed by several aftershocks.
