The 14-year-old was detained on suspicion of robbing Encino’s home after being shot and injured by a homeowner in the morning not too far from where the couple was murdered earlier this month during the robbery.
The teenager whose name has not been released due to his age has been taken into custody by police after his mother reported that he was injured in a drive-by shooting in Southern L.A. on July 17, according to law enforcement records.
Detectives say that officers suspected the story and found a stolen car nearby with blood matching the description of the escape car from the Encino’s house invasion that was happening within an hour.
According to a preliminary crime report, the Encino homeowner woke up around 5:10am, to the sound of him hanging from his bedroom downstairs, moved his family to a safe room and armed with a handgun.
The homeowner yelled a warning, fired two shots, and a figure in dark clothing advanced upstairs, holding what he described as the samurai sword.

The object the homeowner said was turned out to be a sword, law enforcement officials told NBCLA.
On Monday night, more than 200 Encino residents attended a community meeting with police and district attorneys to discuss the recent robbery and the murders of American Idol music director Robin Kay and her husband Thomas Deluca.
They were found dead on July 14th at their home on White Oak Avenue. Detectives said they believe he was shot dead during a robbery on July 10th.
The LAPD said the number of robberies in the citywide and West San Fernando Valley has been declining in recent years, with data over the past two months showing a decline in intrusions compared to months before this year.
