Democrat New York City Mayor Eric Adams is set to file a lawsuit against the Trump administration after the federal government secretly revoked more than $80 million in funding for the city’s immigration shelter.
Adams administration lawyers wrote to city director Brad Lander on Friday, saying the city’s legal department planned to take legal action by next weekend, according to New York, earlier this week. The letter came after Lander urged him to file a lawsuit against the Adams administration or to allow him to hire his own lawyer to sue Trump and Elon Musk, who lead government efficiency.
“Given the severity of the situation, we can’t afford to waste any more time. If the mayor prefers to spend his days moving forward on President Trump’s agenda, rather than fighting for New Yorkers, then legal affairs. The department must allow me to do so,” he said in a statement Friday.

FEMA money, funded by the US Customs and Border Patrol, paid a refund of $12.50 per night for each hotel room. The city said most of the hotels used to accommodate immigrants are not luxurious. The remaining funds were directed towards immigrant security, food and other services.
This comes after the Justice Department ordered prosecutors to drop a federal corruption case against Adams, who was charged with fraud, bribery and contributions to the campaign from foreigners. Some raised concerns that Adam might be seen by the president as his case was dropped.
