The 19th Eaton Fire victim was found in Altadena on Monday, officials said more than six months after an unprecedented wildfire swept across Los Angeles’ wide strip, resulting in more than 31 months of deaths.
The body was found in 10 blocks of the Lavenice Court and was found to be human, the inspector’s office said in a statement Tuesday.
Like all but one of the victims of Eton Fire, this person died west of North Lake Avenue. This served as a division between those who received evacuation warnings before the flames arrived and those who were not.
The Pallisard and Eton fires were one of the most deadly and destructive fires in California history. In addition to the dozens of lives lost, more than 16,000 structures were burned, most of which were homes.
The victim has not been identified yet. Only one other victim discovered in Palisade in the Pacific Ocean in mid-January has yet to be identified.
Before Monday’s announcement, the latest discovery of the wreckage took place in April, marking the 18th and 30th overall victims of Eton Fire.
Investigators rely on dental records, DNA, medical records and radiographs to identify the remains, the statement said. They interview families of missing people in search of clues.
“Due to the complexity of these methods and processes, it can take quite a while to verify the identity of the deceased in these types of cases,” the medical examination room said.
