Law enforcement is under investigation after the explosion in Inglewood rocked a neighbourhood just blocks away from high school, officials said.

The explosion occurred Sunday afternoon shortly after the masked man was seen at the entrance to an apartment in the 600 block of South Greville Avenue. There, the man knocked on the door of the house and asked for his money. An explosion was heard in the area after the man left the scene.

Maria Guttierrez, who lives in the area, said he had heard the uproar.

“I cleaned up the house and came down and it sounds like a big explosion, like a ‘boom’,” she said.

The second floor apartment was heavily damaged by the incident, according to Colonel Neil Cochran of Inglewood Police Station. It is unknown which tools were used in the explosion.

“I’ve never heard of such calls when I’ve been working here for 25 years,” Cochran said. “So it definitely wasn’t out of the box.”

No injuries were reported on Sunday. Police are still searching for the individual who caused the explosion.

“We need the help of the public,” Cochran said. “If they see something, if they see someone in the car, let us know. If you have a video that might have filmed something, we’ll appreciate it.”
