The squirrel population, which appears to be out of control, has residents of the well-known Southern California beach community.
When KTLA’s Kimberlychen spoke to residents on Monday, dozens of fuzzy creatures ran around Santa Monica’s Pallisard Park, which stretches along sea avenues.
“These squirrels are insensitive to decolorization for all people. When I jog, I almost travel over them because they don’t get in your way,” said Santa Monica resident Gary Spiel.
The squirrels are nothing new to the region, but some say the population has exploded since the 2020 community pandemic.

The city of Santa Monica has posted signs urging its citizens not to feed squirrels and birds in the area.
The red and white signs say it “creates a native ecology imbalance” and increases human dependence on food, media outlet Laist reports.
Despite the signs, KTLA cameras caught several visitors and handed the food to the squirrels to the park.
“It’s crazy. People come and they play with them. They feed them all the time… I’m just like them, guys, stop.
“I was just sitting in the park, a squirrel approaching me and actually raw my feet,” she said.
Flaherty had urged people to stop feeding squirrels because they didn’t want their population to be controlled by cities or because poison would be used.
