Sebastian Daniel Guerra fought rare brain tumors for months, but died last week surrounded by his family. He was only 11 years old.
“My beautiful son Sebastian was kind of one. He loved life and had so many dreams,” said his mother, Katie Mozier. “I am very proud of the brave boy who chose to smile and do his best every day, even if the fight was extremely difficult.”
The once energetic, danced and lively boy was featured on the KTLA in January 2024 after a rapid growth of diffuse normal glioma (DMG) and was diagnosed with aggressive pediatric brain tumors.
Unfortunately, due to its aggressive nature and location, the tumor was inoperable. Instead, Sebastian has conducted multiple radiation therapies and clinical trials.
“He never complained. He said I could do this and he seemed to have done it, and it takes a lot of courage,” Mossier said. “There are some very difficult moments on this journey because you can’t control as a parent.”
Over the past year, family, friends and community have checked Sebation’s bucket list to check out the best they can, including trips to Paris and celebrations for the big 11th birthday. Sadly, it will be his last.
His family now vows to continue the fight to help raise awareness for his honor.
“Sebastian loved his family and friends, but he also loved everyone he met. My boy deserved a chance to fight, but unfortunately, pediatric cancer is especially true of brain tumors. We don’t get enough funding for our kids,” Mossier said. “Our family is devastated. Sebastian is the light of our family and parents don’t need to see their children die in their arms. Change to all children facing cancer I hope that it will bring about it.”
His family donated Sebation tumors to provide further research to the Foundation https://giftfromchild.org/ to lead the fight for Sebastian and other children.
