According to her family, a Hollywood 7-Eleven employee died after being told that her manager was attacked during her shift last week.
It was around 2:15pm on June 24th when Wilshire Division officials answered a call about felony batteries at a convenience store in the 5700 block of Melrose Avenue.
LAPD said there was an altercation between the female victim and the suspected female, where they were caught up in a verbal argument that got physical. Officers arrived to find a woman in her 20s on the floor where she was seriously injured. She was rushed to the hospital, but police say the suspect fled the scene before authorities arrived. As of June 30th, no arrests have been announced.
The family identified the victim as Jessica McLaughlin. Her brother, Sean McLaughlin, told KTLA that Jessica was approaching the end of her shift as her assistant manager began to oppose her and began to throw bottles at her. The situation then escalated, he said.
Other employees told the family that the manager pinned Jessica to the ground and straddled her and straddled her. Sean said the assistant manager later tried to delete surveillance footage from the store before escaping by bike.
Doctors reportedly told their families that lack of oxygen caused irreversible brain damage. Jessica has been declared clinically dead, and her family plans to rescue her on Tuesday or Wednesday to extend the funeral arrangements. She was told that she had told her loved one before the incident that she had been experiencing bullying at work.
Jessica’s father remains by her side at Hollywood Elders Hospital, where her family is grieving and seeking justice.
Sean McLaughlin launched Gohhundme to raise money for Jessica’s funeral, saying, “Jessica McLaughlin is my sister, but she’s more than that. She’s a daughter, a best friend, and she’s like a dream for every child.”

He explained how his colleagues tried to inflict Jessica CPR after the attack, but the damage had already been done.
“The doctors and detectives later confirmed what we already knew in our minds. Jessica did nothing wrong. She was the victim and this attack should never have happened,” he wrote.
“Now we’re trying to give her the goodbye she deserves… If you can help, whether it’s about giving or simply sharing — that would mean everything to us.”
KTLA has reached out to 7-Eleven regarding the incident and is waiting for a response. The investigation is still underway and LAPD is still searching for suspects.
