Lover is protesting after being shot dead by a Los Angeles police officer during a traffic stop
Mario Sanchez, 35, had a cell phone when the fatal shooting occurred.
On March 14, police found a vehicle driving irregularly on the Imperial Highway just east of Broadway around 10:20pm.
The officer pulled the car and ordered Mario to lower the window and place his hand outside the car. At that time, Mario reportedly began screaming blasphemy at the officers. After a while he got out of the car and faced the officers.
He is said to have removed the dark object from his waistband area and pointed it immediately. That’s when the police opened a fire and fired Mario. He was taken to hospital and later died.
Investigators later confirmed the object that Mario had pointed out to police as a mobile phone. He reportedly had been home from work when the shooting occurred.

On Friday, loved ones and community members gathered outside the Southeast LAPD station to seek justice. They want to file criminal charges against the officers involved in Mario’s death.
“They shot him in their head,” said Mario’s sister, Milka Sanchez. “They shot him all over his body – over 30 times. This is not fair. We need to pay the police for what they did. I want to indict them.”
The main cause of death was listed as a gunshot wound to the head, according to the office of the LA County Medical Examination Office website.
“Can you imagine someone being shot on the ground like an animal, then they were thrown into the car, handcuffed and thrown in after they didn’t show vital signs?” said Alejandro Villalpando, an activist with a coalition for community management against the police. “That’s what people report seeing. That’s unfair.”
Mario’s family said he was the father of two children, who were several weeks away from celebrating his 36th birthday.
“After this, we will never be the same,” Milka said. “They took our lives.”
The incident is under investigation by the LAPD’s military investigation department and the California Department of Justice.
