Editor’s Note: KTLA contacted the U.S. Department of Homeland Security multiple times before its publication. At the time of publication, DHS was not responding. KTLA will update this article with new information that is now available.

Dozens of farm workers were detained during an immigration attack on a Ventura County farm business on Thursday, and federal agents deployed tear gas to protesters.

The immigrant raid took place around 11am at Glass House, 645 Laguna Road, Camarillo.

Sky5’s video shows the massive presence of federal law enforcement in a nearby field, with witnesses saying agents are in custody of workers.

Tensions during immigration enforcement work escalated in the afternoon when US Customs and Border Patrol agents began firing tear gas at crowds of people.

Sky5 showed protesters gathering at the frontline with roads blocked on both Laguna Roads both north and south.

The scene escalated around 12:35pm when she saw tear gas unfolding into the crowd. According to KTLA’s rich Prickett, paramedics were asked to the scene to treat multiple injuries in the multi-layer incident.

By 1:40pm, Sky5 had at least 30 people sitting on the wall, cuffing their hands and brown paper bags to the view in front of their feet. More detainees were seen around the area, possibly waiting to be taken to a detention centre. It was not immediately clear whether any of the detainees were protest-related arrests.

Protesters were in conflict with law enforcement at the scene of the attack, but paramedics established a triage system nearby for individuals injured by tear gas. Prickett reported that paramedics were unable to get close to the scene due to ongoing operations.

KTLA spoke at Vianey Lopez Live On Air, the Ventura County District 5 supervisor.

“What’s happening is that there are hundreds of people on the scene, and potentially undocumented individuals are being questioned and interrogated,” Lopez said. “I don’t know how many people are in custody at this point.”

However, Lopez noted that he received reports of seeing two vans each carrying around 15 people left the site. “It’s an ongoing situation where people are very concerned about the safety of those who show up with anger and disappointment at what’s going on with hardworking people in our community.”

The military vehicle will arrive at Camarillo on July 10, 2025 at the site of immigration enforcement work on the farm.

By 4pm, the crowd of protesters had swelled in size, facing a line of heavily armed federal agents. The military truck, potentially from the National Guard, arrived at the scene around 4:30pm as other law enforcement agencies tried to clean the road.

Dozens of detained workers are still visible as they waited to move away from the scene. At about 4:45pm, agents loaded the detainees into an unmarked grey van and were transported to an unknown second location.

The Camarillo attack came during simultaneous operations at the second Carpinteria of the Glass House, located about 50 miles northwest of Santa Barbara County.

During that operation, Rep. Sardo Carvajal (D-Santa Barbara) tried to enter an area that was blocked by federal agents but was denied access and turned around, video from a video from a local news station showed.

Carvajal issued a statement following an enforcement operation from the Department of Homeland Security, which he described a “troubling lack of transparency” since the Trump administration began the collapse of famous immigrants in California.

Rep. Sardo Carbara (D-Santa Barbara) was kicked out by federal agents during immigration enforcement activities in Carpinteri on July 10, 2025 (John Palminteri/Keyt)

“I request the Department of Homeland Security for answers to find out who they will detain and where detainees are being taken,” the statement reads in part. “These militarized ice attacks are not the way you keep our community safe. This kind of disruption only separates the family and the tearful community.”
