The high-speed pursuit from the downtown Los Angeles area to the Santa Monica ended with a driver with a Los Angeles Police Department officer caring for dogs coming out of the car.
The pursuit began after reports that someone wanted to assault him with a deadly weapon. Details about the crime were not immediately available.
Police attempted traffic stops on 8th Avenue and Spring Street before the driver headed west on the 10th highway towards the Los Angeles County coast. The driver left the highway in downtown Santa Monica and ran in circles at the intersection of Moomat Ahiko Way and Ocean Avenue just east of Santa Monica Pier.
The driver eventually surrendered and lay against the ground as the officer approached. A white dog with brown spots was surrounded by the car, roaming the sidewalk and street near the man before passing through the open driver’s door.
The officer placed the dog on a leash. It was not immediately known whether the dog belonged to a driver.
LAPD is trying to find friends and family to pick up dogs being taken to animal shelters as a last resort.
