As new details emerged when a 7-month-old boy was allegedly being invited in San Bernardino County, authorities took the couple’s two-year-old child and searched the home with the corpse dog.
On August 14, the boy’s mother, Rebecca Halo, first told investigators that she left her husband, Jake Mitchell Halo and two other children in the local park.
“I came here and parked on the edge,” she told KTLA. “As I was driving, I smelled the baby going to the bathroom and said, ‘Don’t worry, we’re going to change you.’ ”
After parking, Rebecca claims she placed the baby next to the car seat to change her diaper. The last thing she said was to hear the voice of a stranger before she was attacked.
“I was about to get some diapers and someone said, ‘Horror’. I haven’t remembered anything since then,” she shed tears. “I woke up here on the floor, but I couldn’t see Emmanuel.”
Both Riverside and San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Officers deployed K-9 units and helicopters during a massive manhunt that ultimately failed.

Authorities now say Emmanuel’s mother and father are less involved in the investigation.
Sheriff’s investigators said Rebecca refused to continue talking to authorities when faced with contradictions in her story. The grandmother of a child who believes the couple is innocent said investigators asked Rebecca to take a lie detector test, but her husband Jake refused the request until she had an attorney.
Jake Mitchell Halo was convicted of a June 2023 felony for child abuse in a 2018 arrest in Hemet, the Orange County Register reported, according to Riverside County Superior Court records.
He was sentenced to 180 days of prison and 48 months of probation and is scheduled to appear in court in early September on suspicion of breach of probation.
Authorities reportedly searched the couple’s Cabazon home on Saturday and brought their corpse dogs along while friends and family began search efforts Friday night.
“At this point in the investigation, investigators are unable to rule out foul plays with Emmanuel’s disappearance,” said officials in the SBSD’s specialist investigation department, adding that the investigation is ongoing.

The concern for us is particularly within the scope of a sudden decision by our mother to end the communication between law enforcement and our team… something is not right in this big picture.”
In the meantime, Rebecca and Jake Haro continue to appeal for a safe return of seven months.
