The FBI Los Angeles said Monday that anyone planning on traveling abroad for spring break should be careful and watch out for those around them.
Travelers should first check if there is a valid travel advisory at their destination.
Among the several countries in Africa and the Middle East that are on the “Level 3: Travel” list, Americans are recommended to avoid Egypt.
Jamaica is also a popular destination with Level 3 warnings as the State Department believes there may be “severe risks” when traveling to the country.
One of the most popular destinations during spring break, many parts of Mexico are under level 2 advisories, encouraging travelers to “be careful while traveling.”
Mexican states suffering from cartel violence, including Sinaloa and Zacatecas, are on the “Level 5 Not Traveling” list.
“Whether you’re a family trying to escape the ultimate winter suffering, or a university student seeking a short break from the harshness of academic life, we know that there is a risk,” the FBI assistant director responsible for Akil Davis said in a statement, urging international travelers to be prepared to contact the nearest US embassy and consulate.

Just establishing contact information in case of an emergency, use an approved taxi and shuttle, as you are taken away and lured when using an unauthorized cab. Avoid illegal activities, such as accepting sexual intercourse offers, by paying attention to new acquaintances.
