In a drastic move aimed at rolling back obligations during the pandemic era, the Trump administration on Friday directed all federal agencies to erase records, prior mandate violations or exemption requests related to employee COVID-19 vaccination status.
The guidance issued by the U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) is a response to recent lawsuits and is part of a broader push to reverse what officials described as “harmful pandemic-era policies” imposed under the Biden administration.
“Things got out of hand during the pandemic, and federal workers were fired, punished or sidelined for simply making personal medical decisions,” OPM director Scott Kupo said in a statement. “It would never have happened. I would like to thank the President. [Donald] Trump’s leadership, we are making sure that the excesses of that era have no prolonged impact on federal workers. ”

Trump Administrators will issue new guidance to protect religious expression across the federal workforce
Former President Joe Biden signed Executive Order 14043 in September 2021, directing federal agencies to request COVID-19 vaccinations as a condition of federal employment.
Following the controversial demand, numerous cases have been filed by federal employees, unions and states claiming that the power of attorney violated constitutional rights and federal labor laws.

The federal court of appeals blocked the enforcement of the 2022M order, urging Biden to abolish the mandate in May 2023, urging OPM officials to issue a memorandum of understanding to personnel directors who said “agencies should consider posting employment.”
The memo also reminded the agency that it cannot enforce the executive order.

In a memo to department and agency directors on Friday and a memo on behalf of the department and agency, Kupole announced that the agency will soon be effective for using a person’s vaccine history or exemption request in employment-related decisions, including employment, promotion, discipline and termination.
All vaccine-related information must be permanently removed from both physical HR files and electronic personnel unless the employee opts out positively within 90 days.
