A video shown by federal agents walking through the Inland Empire grocery store Monday morning prompted a call for responses from community supporters.
A video shared by the Inland Federation for Immigrant Justice (ICIJ) shows an agent escaping the “employee-only” area at the Stater Brothers location on Westhold Boulevard, Ontario.
The incident asked Javier Hernandez, executive director of ICIJ, why the agents were allowed to enter the store, and expressed concern about their role in the Ontario Police Department’s surgery.
Stater Bros. issued a statement Monday afternoon regarding the incident.
“Unless notified, the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent has informed the manager of the Stator Brothers Market, Ontario that he is conducting personal monitoring at a nearby donut shop located within the same shopping plaza.

There were later unconfirmed reports that three people, including US citizens, were taken into custody at some point during the operation. The Department of Homeland Security did not release any information about detainees.
The Ontario Provincial Police also issued a statement indicating that federal agents are responding to reports that they may have been assaulted, but there was no further role after learning that the agents were acting in official capabilities.
“This morning, around 9:45am, our officers responded to the possibility of an attack by a federal law enforcement official in the 500 block of West Hold Blvd. Upon arrival, our officers confirmed that federal agents were acting in official capacity as officials were attempting to arrest the wanted person.
