Federal agents were caught on camera on Tuesday, detaining witnesses saying they were more than dozens of workers in the parking lot of Home Depot in Pomona.
The video featured several immigrants outside the store’s parking lot and nearby parking lot. One cell phone video saw workers over the course of several days sitting on a sidewalk surrounded by federal agents.
The witness, who only gave his first name as Carlos, said he was in the area around 8am when he saw federal law enforcement.
“It hurts to see them,” he said. “I turned around, went the other way, and saw various other officers there as well.
In response to the video, several community groups gathered to request a request as to why those individuals were arrested.
“We say it won’t happen in Pomona because we have community support and organization,” said Lisbeth Abern, deputy director of the Inland Coalition of Immigration Justice. “We want immigrants from Pomona.”
Immigration advocates say they have previously seen a surge in community appeals for federal agents in the same area. At the rally, one immigration lawyer said everyone has rights regardless of their status as an immigrant.
“You have the right, everyone has the right to be silent — citizens or non-citizens will remain silent,” said Jessica Bansal, lawyer for his National Day Workers Organization Network. “There’s no need to answer questions from immigration officers. Everyone has the right to talk to an attorney.”
Home Depot declined to request comment on NBC4. The US Department of Homeland Security has not returned a request for comment.
