Federal agents use vehicles to catch and arrest drivers in Boyle Heights, leaving children and passengers behind

Federal agents plunged into Boyle Heights and locked them in Wednesday, including men, women and children. The agent extracted the man who was driving before leaving the woman and child behind.

The Los Angeles Police Department responded to the scene to investigate the traffic collision, said Officer Tony Im, a department spokesman. He referred all other inquiries to the Department of Homeland Security.

The agency addressed the incident Wednesday afternoon through a social media post.

“This was not even a blow was carried out. This was a target arrest of a violent mob who punched CBP officers,” the department posted, referring to Customs and Border Patrol. “When the Homeland Security Investigation attempted to arrest Christian Damien Cerno Camacho for an attack, he tried to escape. He was eventually arrested and taken into custody.”

Officials said the woman refused treatment after officers responded to the 3700 block of Whittier Boulevard on Wednesday morning.

In the video of the incident, two sports utility vehicles were trapped as they turned right on the Mercedes, and the second vehicle pushed the bumper into the sedan before popping out with a gun depicting it.

The car stopped and the agent left the vehicle, and it appeared that a round of chemicals of the car had been fired, the video showed. The driver then exited the exit and went behind the agent’s vehicle and was taken into custody.

Homeland Security said officials are facing dramatic spikes in “attacks against them” and risking their lives for the arrest of “murders, rapists and gang members.”

“Secretary [Kristi] Noem’s message to La Rioters is clear,” the post continued. ”[Y]The OU does not stop us or slow us down. ICE and federal law enforcement partners will continue to enforce the law. And if you place your hand on a law enforcement officer, you will be charged to the fullest extent of the law. ”

The surrounding communities were silent tensions just hours after federal authorities arrested a Boyle Heights man on suspicion of assaulting officers.

John Lopez was working in the fire prevention angels on Whittier Boulevard this morning when he saw what looked like a car accident in front of the store. Outside, the car was pinned between the two trucks and saw unidentified smoke rising from behind the car.

“I thought it might be ice at first, but I didn’t think I wouldn’t do it for the average civilian,” Lopez said. “It’s scary to think about it because there were kids involved in that car,” Lopez said.

Witnesses said during the arrest, authorities dispersed smoke that “burns chemicals” near the vehicle while the woman and child were still inside. It is unknown what the smoke is.

The woman in a car with Cerno-Camacho went out with her child and ran to a nearby grocery store.

The man who worked at the store and asked not to name him said he had been holed up for nearly three hours before she and her children were greeted by the family.

“She looked scary,” the man told the Times in Spanish. “The smoke was around the car.”

Tony Medna, who owns a restaurant across the street, said the run-ins with federal agents are causing irreversible scars to the majority Latino community in Boyle Heights.

“A lot of people, families, they’re not coming out anymore. I live in East LA and where I live there. [in Boyle Heights] It’s totally quiet,” Medina said.
