A federal judge on Friday backed Missouri in a state’s $24 billion lawsuit against China’s Communist Party, which accused them of stocking up on protection supplies during the coronavirus pandemic.

“This is a groundbreaking victory for Missouri and the United States in the fight to hold China accountable for unlocking COVID-19 worldwide,” Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey said in a statement.

“China refused to appear in court, but that doesn’t mean they will flee by causing inflated suffering and economic destruction. We intend to collect all the pennies by seizing Chinese assets, including Missouri farmland.”

Bailey’s office said the ruling is six times larger than the largest previous ruling in the state’s history.

Five years after Covid, Americans are splitting whether it is still a threat

“This is a groundbreaking victory for Missouri and the United States in the fight to hold China accountable for unlocking COVID-19 worldwide,” Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey said in a statement. (Bill Clark/CQ-Roll Call, Inc.

Judge Stephen Limbaugh said in his ruling that “the court has held that the state of Missouri has provided satisfactory evidence to the court to establish each defendant’s liability against Missouri under IV of the plaintiff’s complaint. The court therefore jointly and seriously will rule against the defendant at $24,488,825,457.00 with interest of $24,488,825,825,457.00.

The People’s Republic of China, the Communist Party of China, the National Health Commission, the Ministry of Emergency Management of the National Republic of China, the Ministry of National People’s Republic of China, the Fuji Regional Government, the People’s Government of Uhan City, and the Wuhan Institute were all of the Institute of Justice Science in China.

Bailey also wrote on X Friday, “Hey China, you owed Missouri $24 billion. I just passed the court decision. I’ll pay or start seizing assets and farmland.”

The ruling comes five years after former Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmidt sued China for obstructing the production, purchase and export of critical medical devices, including PPE, during the pandemic.

The appeals court ruled in Missouri in January, overturning a lower court’s decision that abandoned the case.

However, the appeals court ruled that the suit must be limited to accusations of supply replenishment after previously accusing the suit of concealing information about the origins of the pandemic.
