Members of the U.S. Coast Guard swung into action Friday in a dramatic rescue of an injured woman aboard a Holland America Line cruise ship.
The incident occurred around 7:12 a.m. Friday, according to the Coast Guard. A 66-year-old woman on board the Koningsdam was experiencing symptoms of a stroke when the crew called for emergency medical assistance.

The ship was about 450 miles south of the U.S.-Mexico maritime border at the time.
Two air crews from San Diego and Sacramento departed to evacuate the woman. Once aboard the cruise ship, crew members helped lift the woman into a helicopter.

She was taken to Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla in San Diego in stable condition. Her identity has not been disclosed.
“Rescues like this are exactly what our crews train for,” said Lt. Brady Stepan, a pilot at Air Base San Diego. “With the coordination of our command center and the outstanding support of our C-27 air support aircrews, we were able to bring patients to a higher level of care.”
