Fentanyl worth $55 million was seized in Southern California. Three suspects facing decades in prison

Three fentanyl dealers, including brothers and sisters, have faced decades in prison for their roles in major drug trafficking schemes, local officials announced Tuesday.

The trio has been accused of owning more than £50 in fentanyl with the intention of selling, according to the office of LA County District Attorney Nathan Hochman. Furthermore, it is said that the weight of substances containing fentanyl is greater than 20 kilograms.

They were caught after a joint investigation into the California Department of Justice’s Fentanyl Enforcement Program and the Downey Police Department posted large cash at an apartment in Downey on Jan. 22, authorities said.

The DOJ added that five kilograms of heroin, 10 pounds of methamphetamine, one kilogram of cocaine, drug packaging and two firearm suppression devices were also placed in the bust on January 22nd.

The £50 seized is more than all fentanyl seized on the US-Canadian border in 2024, officials said. A total of 43 pounds were seized at the border last year, and a kilogram of fentanyl is enough to kill 500,000 people. California Attorney General Rob Bonta said the attack amounts to a lethal dose of 14 million people.

The approximate street value of the seized fentanyl, when sold in grams, would range from $453,000 to $1.36 million.

“This attack may have killed literally every resident of LA County itself,” Da Hochmann said at a press conference Tuesday.

California Attorney General Rob Bonta is working with LA County Da Nathan Hochman and other officials at a press conference that announced the major busts of fentanyl on March 11, 2025.

The suspects were identified as Carlos Manuel Mariscal of Huntington Park, Gustavo Omar Gomez of Huntington Park and Priscilla Gomez of Torrance. The latter two are brothers, the DA’s office confirmed.

Mariscal, 39, is charged with two titles for the sale of a controlled substance, counting possession of one silencer, and counting illegal possession of ammunition prohibited by prior conviction. He is in custody on $60,000 bail and if convicted of charge he faces 31 years and eight months in prison.

Priscilla Gomez, 44, faces two ownership rights for the sale of a controlled substance and a single sale, transport or offer to sell the controlled substance. She is in custody on $35,000 bail and can spend 28 years in prison if convicted of charge.

Her brother Gustavo, 48, is facing 24 years in prison, being charged with two count possession for the sale of a controlled substance if convicted of charge. His bail was set at $10,000.

Preliminary hearings for Mariscal and Gustavo Gomez are set for March 20th. Priscilla Gomez maintains federal custody.
