Senator John Fetterman, D-PA. told Fox News’ Chad Pargram on Thursday that 33-year-old socialist Zoran Mamdani was “GOP’s July Christmas” in the New York City Democratic primary.
“Everything I read about him, I really disagree with it politically effectively,” explained Fetterman. “That’s where I’m a Democrat. He’s honestly not even a Democrat.”
Fetterman has built a reputation in the US Senate for defeating his party on politically divided issues, such as support for Israel and immigration reform. And while Mamdani won the New York City primary in June, the old New York Democrat guard facility has yet to fully embrace socialist candidates.
The Pennsylvania Democrats said that Mamdani’s political rise will be a gift for Republicans who continue to give gifts, as Mamdani said “providing the opportunity for GOP to brand our party and along the radical policy line “providing the opportunity for GOP to brand it, including 1%, taxation of free city buses, increased rents, and urban run gloke storage.”

Mayor Eric Adams and former governor Andrew Cuomo both run independents in the general election. Adams left the Democratic primary amid low approval rates and has since repeatedly filed federal charges, but Mamdani defeated Cuomo through a New York City optional vote.

Fetterman joined the growing chorus of politicians asking Adams and Kaomo to integrate votes against Mamdani, telling Fox News, “They have to grasp on the other side, or they all stay in that race, that’s certainly mutual destruction.”
Former federal prosecutor Jim Walden also serves independence in the general election, and Guardian Angels co-founder Curtis Swawa is the Republican mayoral candidate for the Second Federation election.
Mamdani secured support for New York Democrat Adriano Espillat on Thursday, supporting Cuomo on the primary. Mamdani said he is in talks with New York Democrat Gov. Kathy Hochul, minority leader Hakem Jeffries, and Senate minority leader Chuck Schumer, but has yet to publicly support him.

While some democratic strategists and critics dubbed Mamdani’s major victory with indicators of general change in the party, struggling to find foothold after losing Congress and the White House in 2024, Fetterman said the New York City Democrat primary “is not an accurate reflection of the election.”
“It’s definitely not Pennsylvania, not Wisconsin, not Nevada. Looking at any of the states on the battlefield, New York City is not really related to the kinds of states that decide it in 2028 and the kinds of kinds that decide it,” Fetterman told Pargram.

“Would that help with the offensive campaign? Absolutely. He’s a gift for Republicans like that, but there’s no lesson to learn, there’s no special kind of insight.
Mamdani’s campaign did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.
