Laura Astel, chief of the Hemet Fire Station battalion, said when they arrived on the scene it appeared they had taken a positive lightning strike.
“We stripped the tiles and put out the fire, but there was no internal fire or smoke damage to the house,” she said.
The battalion chief added that it is very rare for four engines and squads to respond to the scene and receive reliable reports of lightning strikes leading to a fire.
“We suspected that based on the conditions we saw when we arrived at the scene and checked it when we got there.”
