Firefighters found a man actively starting a fire in Irwindale Sunday afternoon, and officers arrested him on suspicion of arson, according to the Irwindale Police Department.
Around 12:30 p.m., members of the Los Angeles County Fire Department were at a small brush fire near Riverglade Road and Highway 605 when they witnessed arsonist activity, Irwindale police said. .
Officers responded to the scene and took the suspect into custody, who police identified as Ruben Montez, 29, of Baldwin Park.

Details were limited and initial reports did not say where Montes was arrested, but police eventually confirmed that Montes had been arrested on suspicion of arson.

Officials did not immediately say whether the suspect started the small brush fire that LACOFD responded to or whether it was connected to other fires currently burning in Southern California.
