East Los Angeles firefighters are fighting the fire at Farm 2 in what appears to be an abandoned commercial structure.
Preliminary reports suggest that the boarded building, located in the 1400 block of Atlantic Boulevard, not too far from the 5th Expressway, was well involved in the smoke and fire when crews arrived at the scene just after 5pm.

The Los Angeles County Firefighters took a defensive approach to the flames that caused the collapse of the partial wall. Gil Leyvas of Ktla reported that firefighters took a surrounding approach and pounded the flames from as many angles as possible, and then threw them from as many angles as possible to extinguish the flames with hoses, ladder trucks and water cannons.

Aerial footage from Sky5 above the fire showed intense smoke blowing through densely populated areas, and crews were particularly concerned about several apartments.
The cause of the fire is currently unknown. Atlantic Boulevard in the area is closed for firefighting.
