Firefighters on the ground and in the air have made great strides by including California’s biggest wildfires in 2025.
The Madrefire, which took place just after 1pm on July 2nd in the Cariso Plain in San Luis Obispo County, grew to over 52,000 acres within a day, growing wildfires in Pallisard and Eaton since January.
As of Monday morning, the incident commander said the fire had burned 80,480 acres and 30% had been locked in.
“Firemen have made good progress around the outer perimeter of the fire, creating direct and indirect lines and increasing containment,” authorities said in the breaking news.

One structure was destroyed and one firefighter suffered unspecified injuries.
“The crew is working round the clock to ensure complete control of the fire,” authorities said.
With the help of helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft, over 1,400 firefighters are fighting the flames.
Several sparsely populated areas of San Luis Obispo County remain under evacuation orders and warnings. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
