One person was seriously injured and the home partially collapsed after the explosion rocked the Pacoima neighborhood on Thursday morning, officials said.
The explosion was reported at 9:01 a.m. in the 13,500 block of W. Remington Street, where firefighters arrived to find light smoke coming out of the damaged home, according to a warning from the Los Angeles Fire Department.
The explosion was initially thought to have been caused by fireworks, according to the alert.
One person, said to be only a man in his 40s, was taken to a nearby hospital with serious burns and serious conditions. LAFD spokesman Lindsey Lantz said resident told firefighters he was the only inside at the time of the explosion.
A relative of the injured resident said it was believed that the four dogs were at home at the time of the explosion, officials said they were on alert.
Lantz said the two dogs were safely taken from their homes at 10:30am, with a third known safety in the building. Firefighters are waiting for the building and safety personnel to arrive at the scene before removing the third dog and inspecting the structure. The condition of the fourth dog was unknown.
Officials from the Los Angeles Fire Department’s Dangerous Materials, Arson Units, and Los Angeles Police Bomb Unit also responded to the home.
City buildings and safety officials were also called to inspect the structure, according to the LAFD.
