Five people were hospitalized after a boat flipped over near a Colorado River sandbar over Memorial Day weekend, officials confirmed Monday.
The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Office said the marine executive force was dispatched to the ship’s accident Saturday at 5:07pm.
The crew arrived in the river area near Blankenship Bend and found several injured people and a fallen boat floating in shallow water.
“According to eyewitnesses, the boat was driving at high speed during a spinning motion and Port Sponson caught Chine turning the boat over,” he explained in detail about the department’s release.
The boat driver and female passenger were each suffered severe injuries, while the other three passengers were taken to Havasu Regional Medical Center for minor injuries.

Officials said boat operators were taken to Sunrise Hospital and the medical center, while both female passengers were taken to university medical centers in Nevada.
Passenger names, ages and gender were not immediately provided.
The Sheriff’s Office said the incident is currently under investigation but said “speed appears to be a factor in the accident.”
