Flags for all Los Angeles County facilities were ordered to fly on half staff on Friday in honor of three Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office deputies.
The explosion occurred around 7:30 a.m., the Los Angeles County Fire Department said.
Kathryn Berger, chairman of the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors, called the incident a heartbreaking loss for the county.
“This is a heartbreaking day for our county families,” Burger said in a statement. “Lowing our flag is a rigorous gesture to honor the service and sacrifice of these brave agents. We will never forget our dedication to keeping our community safe.”
3 Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies were killed in an explosion on July 18, 2025 at the Viscale Regional Training Center in East Los Angeles.
Berger expressed his sadness to the deputy’s family as the explosion continued and pledged the county’s full support to the sheriff’s department.
Aerial footage of the Sky5 showed a LASD vehicle with a shattered rear windshield and a nearby backpack on a parking asphalt that looked like a departmental explosive truck. The tarp on the bomb truck was visibly damaged.
Sheriff Robert Luna said at noon Friday that no one else was injured despite previous media reports.
Details surrounding the explosion are under investigation. The agent’s identity has not been released yet.
