Florida Republican Attorney General James Usmiere this week accused Chinese medical device manufacturers of legal action this week, selling “compromised” medical devices, including “backdoors” that can be operated by bad actors.

Contec Medical Systems Co., Ltd, a Chinese-based medical device company. provided a subpoena from the state AG office this week, with a sales division operated in Florida.

In a press release announcing the legal action, Uthmeier denounced potential cybersecurity risks, claiming that the state has been producing patient health monitoring devices in the United States for over a decade, while also hiding “serious security issues” related to the product.

The CMS800, the patient monitoring device in question, has been accused of running a “backdoor” by the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

“The issue includes a ‘backdoor’ that allows bad actors to manipulate the data they see on devices without the knowledge and programming of the patient or provider, which automatically sends patient information to an IP address owned by a university in China,” the press release issued by Uthmeier said. “These issues are particularly concerning given that the FBI warns on previous opportunities that hackers are targeting the American healthcare system. Federal agencies recommend disconnecting or disabling these monitors.”

Among the concerns listed by Uthmeier were efforts to distribute CONTEC and its products to represent CONTEC patient monitors approved by the FDA and other international standards.

Uthmeier also accused one of the Miami-based Epsimed distributors, a Contec patient monitor, of selling Contec devices again, selling them as their own.

“CCP’s land ownership is bad, but yes [the] The tip of the iceberg. Their industrial property holdings are just as bad as their port access. Perhaps at its worst, it’s a deep penetration of critical infrastructure and government systems. ”

Meanwhile, Uthmeier issued a subpoena to Epsimed, adding that while Contec and Epsimed represent patient monitoring devices, they have specific quality assurances on safety and reliability, and “contained backdoors and patient information sent to China.”

Fox News Digital repeatedly reached out to Contec for this story, but did not receive a response.

Epsimed CEO Jose Mena confirmed the receipt of Uthmeier’s subpoena and said he is working with “100%.”

“We don’t sell these monitors in the US. Our clients are in Latin America,” Mena added.

“The monitors are rarely used on internet connections,” he continued. “For monitors to connect to the internet and pose threats, they need a central surveillance system that has never been supplied. This means that monitors sold by Epsimed are currently being used as standalone bases (not connected to the internet).

Uthmeier’s legal action is the first step in an ongoing effort that could lead to damage, civil penalties or injunctive relief to businesses, a week after Chinese experts have increased their ability to increase the likelihood that Chinese companies will block CCPs from within. The warning follows a massive Israeli attack on Iranian nuclear and military locations launched via Iranian soil and weapons systems, as well as drone bases built on soldiers smuggled into Iran.

Civil servants on both sides of the aisle are increasingly warning about China’s growing land and asset management in the US, and can help them with the possibility of a war breaking out between the two biggest economic superpowers in the world.

“The US must choose to get serious or lose the war,” warned Michael Lucci, CEO and founder of State Armor Action, a conservative group whose mission is to develop and enact state-level solutions to global security threats, warned in his X-account after the Israeli attack.

“CCPs’ land ownership is bad, but it’s the tip of the iceberg. Their industrial property holdings are just as bad as port access. Perhaps the worst is the deep penetration of critical infrastructure and government systems.”

Lucci follows news of Uthmeier’s legal action, and patients say they “don’t worry about medical devices sending data back to communist China.”
