Foo Fighters celebrates the 30th anniversary of the band’s debut

Foo Fighters is celebrating the anniversary of their old albums with the release of new songs.

On Wednesday, nearly 30 years after the day after the rock band filling Dave Grohl’s stadium dropped their self-titled debut on July 4, 1995, the group revealed their first original material since the 2023 “But Here We Are” LP.

“Today I woke up screaming for change / I knew I had to do,” Grohl sings in the calm organ section. “So here we have a shadow/ash on ashes, it becomes dusty in the dust.” The frontman then sings about “waiting for someone to fix you” as the song explodes with the band’s signature guitar sheeritrick and BL haughty drums.

In a statement, Grohl, 56, said: “For many years, we have unlimited moments of joy and devastating heartbreak. Beautiful moments of victory and painful defeat.

Referring to the former members of the band, he added: “Without William Goldsmith’s endless energy, Franz Stahl’s flavoured wisdom, and Josh Freeze’s thunder magic, this story would be incomplete, so I would like to thank for the time, music, and each of them heartfelt memories. (Freise, who took over as a drummer after Hawkins’ death, was fired from the band in May because he was said to be unknown to him.)

“And…Taylor,” continued Grohl. “Your name is spoken every day, sometimes with tears in your face, sometimes with smiles, but you are still in everything we do, everything we do.

A spokesman for Foo Fighters refused to specify who played the drums on “Today’s Song.” Earlier this week, Foo Fighters released the cover of the minor threatening early ’80s hardcore classic “I Don’t Hear It.” This said he recorded the music in 1995 and the vocals in 2025.

“Song of the Day” wrote in an Instagram post that, less than a year later, Grohl, who has his wife, Jordyn Blum and three daughters, gave birth to a daughter with a woman who was not married.

“I intend to be a loving and supportive parent to her,” he wrote. “I love my wife and children. I’m doing everything I can to regain their trust and get forgiveness.” Grohl’s eldest son, 19, gave Nirvana’s “all apologies” for Nirvana at a January Fireaid concert. His second daughter, Harper, designed a single artwork for “Song of the Day.”

Foo Fighters will be holding a series of concerts in Asia in October before introducing Mexico City’s Corona Capital Festival in November.
