Ford recalls nearly 200,000 Mustang Mach-E vehicles on concerns that the door could lock someone up and lock them in.
National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said that if the battery is low, the vehicle’s electronic door latch could remain locked if the driver or passenger seat exits and closes the door. Malfunctions can catch people who cannot use the internal door release handle, such as children in the rear seats.
The NHTSA said inability to enter or exit a vehicle in an emergency increases the risk of injury.
According to the NHTSA, the recall will affect 197,432 vehicles built between 2021 and 2025. Ford will send a letter to its owner on June 23rd informing the safety risks.
Dealers will update the PowerTrain Control Module (PCM) and Secondary Onboard Diagnostic Control Module C (SOBDMC) software for free.
Owners can contact Ford Customer Service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford’s number for this recall is 25S65.
