First on Fox: The Advocacy Group Concord Coalition taps former MP Carolyn Bourdeaux (D-Ga.) to lead a new “Fiscal Responsibility” group aimed at lowering the country’s $36 trillion national debt.
Concord Action said it will lead grassroots efforts to achieve a “sustainable” country budget. In an exclusive interview with Fox News Digital ahead of its launch, Bourdeaux, the group’s president and executive director, previewed Concord Action’s plans to pressure them to balance their budgets.
“We are preparing to launch Concord Action, which complements the Concord Coalition, which builds on all the grassroots energy around debt and deficits, and is about to start moving Congressional needles to bring financial responsibility and fiscal discipline to Washington,” Bulldeau said.
Bordeaux, who represented Georgia’s 7th Congressional District in 2021 for his first term, worked on bipartisan legislation to tackle the crisis in the national budget while in office. She was a member of the Blue Dog Task Force on Financial Responsibility and Government Reform. It says it is committed to reducing federal deficits through bipartisan policy development.

Georgia has a Republican-led Congress, and Bulldeaux led the Georgia Senate Budget and Evaluation Office from 2007 to 2010. Bulldeaux served as an advisory role to the Georgia Senate in balancing the budget during the 2008 economic downturn.
“I was the director of the Georgia Senate Budget and Evaluation Office during the Great Recession,” Bulldeaux said. “I helped Georgia balance the budget during the worst fiscal crisis in modern memory. One of the messages that come up from it is that it can be. I was working with Republican leadership, primarily to balance the budget.
Bordeaux said he expects a digital campaign with a newsletter to engage the public in Concord Action’s grassroots efforts. There is also the City Hall element for building energy on the ground.

A 2024 Fox News voter analysis states that the economy is the most important issue for Americans, with four in 10 voters being the most important factor in voting. Voters have a negative view of the economy, with almost two-thirds valuing the economy as bad, and 40% or indeed poor.
As the country approaches the closing deadline for another government and Congress begins budget negotiations for fiscal year 2026, Bordeaux said it is time to start Concord Action.
“I think the issue of debt and deficits is particularly pronounced for everyone,” Bordeaux said. “We’ve obviously experienced inflation, we’ve seen interest rates rise, so now it’s really the heart for many Americans.”

The Concord Action said it would pressure Congress to stop adding to federal debt and create a “sustainable budget” through “fiscal responsibility.”

“We just experienced pretty severe inflation, which was driven in part by the growing debt deficit,” Bordeaux said.
“We are currently in debt of $36 trillion based on our current trajectory. The Congressional Budget Office expects to add another $25 trillion to that,” she said. “We spend more on debt concerns than on defense, more on Medicare. For this country, we are beginning to put a lot of pressure on many of the big priorities we have, and it’s very important to address this.”
