Former US Congressman Mia Love, R. Luta, passed away Sunday at the age of 49, according to her family.
Love, the daughter of Haitian immigrants and the first black Republican woman to be elected to Congress, was “peacefully passed away” surrounded by her family.
“I want you to know that she passed away peacefully today in a heart that is grateful for her overflowing due to Mia’s deep influence on our lives,” Love’s family said in a statement posted to X.

“In the midst of an avalanche of her life and happy memories, Mia quietly slipped a band of deaths, surged heaven as her words and visions have always been,” the family continued. “We are grateful for the many good wishes, prayers and the dedication of Pathetic Dol. We are spending our time as a family and will provide information on funeral services and the disclosure of her life in the future.”
